Who Needs Placement?
At Spokane Community College (SCC), some programs require placement exams or skills assessment, while others do not. To find out if your program requires placement testing, please call us at 509-533-7074.
Being placed in the right classes early in your college career makes it more likely you will successfully complete your degree or program. At the Placement and Testing Center, we help you begin your studies at SCC in classes that aren't too hard or too easy.
Placement Doesn't Always Require Exams
If you graduated from high school, completed your GED, or completed SCC's College Prep in the last three years, you may be able to use your GPA, test scores, or prior coursework to determine your English placement.
If you have graduated from high school within the last year, you may be able to use test scores or prior coursework to determine your math placement.
Still unsure? The Placement and Testing Center staff helps you determine whether you can use these "alternative measures" or whether you need to take a placement test.
When to Complete Placement Testing
Before you can schedule your placement tests, you must apply for Admission to SCC. You then receive a student ID number, which is needed to test or submit alternative placements. Complete the placement process as soon as possible so our advisors and counselors can help you find the right classes.
All tests must be completed 15 minutes prior to our closing time. Please be sure to allow enough time to complete your test.
After you finish your exams, you take your placement results and visit a curriculum advisor or counselor. Your goals, combined with your placement results, help your curriculum advisor or counselor recommend the best path for you.
