The Spokane Community College President Screening Committee has forwarded three finalists to Community Colleges of Spokane (CCS) Chancellor Christine Johnson, announced Carolyn Casey, CCS public information officer and screening committee chair.
The candidates are Kevin Brockbank, vice provost and currently acting president of SCC; Barbara Hanson, former CEO and chancellor of Louisiana Delta Community College; Greg Mosier was selected as well but withdrew from the selection process to pursue other opportunities; Both candidates will be taking part in a full day of interviews and presentations at Spokane Community College. The community is invited to take part in the public forums.
Johnson anticipates selecting a permanent president before the end of the academic year so that the person can begin the new position by July 1, 2018.
Open public forums have been scheduled in Building 6/The Lair at SCC for each candidate:

SCC is located at 1810 North Greene Street. In addition to the forums, during their full-day visits, the candidates will participate in a series of separate meetings with campus and district leadership.
Barbara Hanson
served as the chancellor of Louisiana Delta Community College from 2013 to 2017 during which she led the complicated merger of eight formerly independent campuses while increasing enrollment and addressing a multi-million dollar deficit. Before that, Hanson spent nearly four years as the chief academic officer of San Jacinto College-Central in Pasadena, Texas. She also served as a vice president for instruction at Cape Fear Community College in Wilmington, North Carolina, and at North Idaho College. From 1997 to 2006, she was the Dean of Instruction at Arizona Western College in Yuma, Arizona.
Hanson earned a doctorate in educational leadership from Northern Arizona University and a masters of arts in English as a Second Language and bachelor of arts in German Pedagogy-German Literature at the University of Arizona.
Kevin Brockbank
has served as the acting president for SCC since July 2017. Before taking that temporary role, he was the vice provost for strategic partnerships for two years. Prior to moving to Spokane, Brockbank was the dean of the school of applied technologies and professional development at Salt Lake Community College in Utah. The school of applied technologies consists of three divisions serving about 10,000 students annually.
Prior to that, he was the interim associate dean and department chair for industrial technology at Missoula College, a two-year college with the University of Montana, from 2011 to 2012. He was the executive director of academic and workforce training (2008-2011), the department chair for industrial trades (2005-2011) and a faculty member in computer technology (1996-2007) at Helena College with the University of Montana. He earned a doctorate in educational leadership through the University of Montana, where he also earned his master’s degree in education-curriculum studies and his bachelor’s degree in business and information technology education.
SCC is one of the most diverse community colleges in Washington, offering numerous career technical degrees, a well-respected academic transfer degree program and a large adult basic education program. SCC operates thriving rural centers in Colville, Newport, Ione, Inchelium and Republic. It also has numerous adult basic education sites throughout Spokane and operates the prison education program at Airway Heights Correctional Facility, the Felts Field Aviation Maintenance and Avionics Program and the second largest apprenticeship program in the state.
Greg Mosier
Dr. Greg Mosier, removed himself from the selection process to pursue another opportunity. The forums scheduled for Tuesday, April 10th are canceled
